PSG Edges Olympique de Marseille on Penalties to Lift French Season-Opening Trophy in Kuwait.

PSG players celebrating

The Parisian club has now secured the season-opening trophy on 14 separate occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain required a stoppage-time equaliser followed by a perfect spot-kick decider to overcome their arch-rivals in Kuwait and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive French Super Cup victory.

The Champions League holders seemed to be coasting towards a straightforward triumph in the match featuring the Ligue 1 winners and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele found the net in the opening stages.

Yet, the southern French side fired two times late to seize a shock lead. Initially, the English forward scored from the spot-kick, before the defender inadvertently directed the ball into his own net for an own-goal.

In a remarkable twist of fortune, Goncalo Ramos grabbed a vital equaliser in the final seconds to force the match into a penalty shootout. The Parisian shot-stopper Lucas Chevalier then stood as the hero, stopping crucial attempts from O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Goncalo Ramos, the midfielder, the full-back, and Desire Doue all scored successfully for PSG to seal a convincing shootout win.

The record champions PSG, who met last season's Ligue 1 second-placed team Olympique de Marseille after completing a domestic double, have now lifted this trophy for the 12th time in the last 13 seasons.
